You indicated that the rich weren't paying their 'fair share.' I responded by pointing out that the top 50% of wage earners pay 95% of the tax burden. That is completely separate (although obviously relative and related) from the tax 'rate' which they pay.
Then adjust it down and make the top 60% of wage earners pay 90% of the burden.
Let me get this straight... your definition of 'fair' is that people who make the right decisions in life, who invest in the right ideas, who don't waste their money on immediate pursuits so they can benefit in the long-term, who work hard and earn success, and yes... have a little luck should have their money confiscated by the state? But my point is from a moral standpoint, how much money does an individual and his immediate family need to live a comfortable life? In this case of the successful business person, they should be at the top of the income scale. But I have proposed that scale be capped and a 90% income tax rate at a high level, say over $1 million a year is completely fair. "Damn it's so unfair. I only have $1M per year to live on, when I could have $10M, $20M, $50M, bastards!" Obviously you think it's fair if you are allowed to live in excess while others do without or do even you have a cap? ;)
Now you can muster up all of your capitalistic indignity and tell me why it's not fair. Which brings us back to my original premise. How much do you need to live on and still be considered a 'moral' person? What is your definition of moral, being a glutton? That is what the excessively rich are.
BTW, I don't hold anything against them, I don't envy them as I live what I consider to be a very comfortable life in the range of 150k per year income. But I am in the minority. A whole lot of people scrape by in this country. There is 'smart' and then there is 'opportunity'. Right now large multi-national corporations are doing there best to take away 'opportunity' from average citizens so they can increase their profits. Not only do they not give a damn about society, they have absolutely no national loyalty. Call them carpet baggers.
So in conclusion, I don't think excessive wealth is moral and I have no problem with the Federal government setting the top tax bracket at 90%. Call me a suedo-socialist. :)

Hi all,
Just added a 4.8 GHz i7-2600k folding -bigadv (~ 49000 ppd) to my MacRumors contribution.
This is being helped by:
3.8 GHz i7-860 folding -smp 7 -bigadv ~ 22000 ppd
2.8 GHz i7-860 folding -smp 6 ~ 8000 ppd
3* GTX 460 ~ 32000 ppd combined
1* GTX 430 ~ 4000 ppd
All running in wine under Ubuntu 10.04
Hopefully I can maintain a reasonably stable 100k ppd, at least until the weather gets warmer when the graphics cards will have to stop.

I wonder if the Shuffle will ever have more than 2 gigabytes. It's form factor seems to limit it, not because there'll never 2 gigabyte storage that small (there will), but because you can't select songs. I wonder how useful a 10 gig Shuffle would be. (Maybe it would be useful... since I don't listen to music on "shuffle" very often, it doesn't appeal to me, so maybe I'm missing something.)
But on the other hand, what can Apple do? They won't be able to make it much smaller (still needs controls and headphone jack).
That leaves them with the only option being to make it cheaper.
Feature-wise, I guess wireless syncing, as it gets smaller the dock is going to be smaller and smaller (the current version looks flimsy, like it wouldn't stand up or something.) But there's not much you can do with something with no screen.

It is a scam. But if you're not willing to even read the description of a product that you are purchasing online, then I really have no pity. When you go to a store you can physically see and feel the product. When you're buying something online, you look at the picture and then read the description to see exactly what it's about and if it's really what it says it is. In this case he looked at the picture and then placed a $450 bid...

It's not like the iPhone wasn't expected, and for those outside the US it's all a bit too far away anyway to worry about.
Personally I was hoping for announcements in regards to leopard, iLife/iWork and future macbook options (Such as the 12" macbook pro... I have drooled over 12" powermacs and the like since i used my brothers in 2002)
Maybe with this quote ...over the next several months we're gonna be rolling out some awesome new stuff for the mac... I may not have to wait too long

Have you SEEN most Americans lately? It's not a matter of want, it's a matter of NEED. Gotta have room for those big bodies. :)
It's combination of factors people have listed. For the most part, we don't have to deal with the narrow streets that much of Europe and Asia have. Also, I think Americans drive more. Now that I think about it, I would like to see a comparison of average miles driven per year in the US vs. Europe. I wonder how many people in Europe, for example, drive 30+ miles one way to work every day. If you drive that much, you want something with more room and better ride. Also, as pointed out, if the next bigger model provides similar mileage and isn't much more expensive, why not get it?
The same is true with more powerful engine options in the same car. In the new Hyundai Sonata, for example, the turbocharged 4 produces 70+ more HP yet is only rated 1 MPG less. For that small a penalty, why not go for more power?

Well that was fun ....
I am not entirely sure everything is running right, i am doing one work unit every 26 hours on the mac... its the SMP client and its a dual core 2.8ghz .. i get the feeling if i were running it on my bootcamp partion it would be better plus then i could utilize the graphics processer as well
however i installed ubuntu on the other 3.06ghz pc and well lets say that folding doesn't like it ... so i am now installing open Suse... so far so good ...

Hmm.. 3G and GPS in our MacBooks. Finally MOFOS! For those wondering my iPhone has a unlimited data plan but what I can do is put a Prepaid Sim card in my "supposed" MacBook Pro and if it gets stolen remotely top it up Via internet then eventually the sim card will connect and get online. For those wondering Ireland 90% of the population is like on Pay go.

Because I was aiming that at people who were throwing a hissy fit and going to Verizon. So your point had nothing to do with mine!! I wasn't addressing everyone upset with the price increase. ANd yes, I do think going to some one who will end up being worse than the company you are pissed at in the regards of what you are pissed at as throwing a hissy fit! As I said above, if AT&T cancelled my unlimited and I was left with 2 similar choices (between AT&T & Verizon) BUT would need to spend extra with Verizon due to swithcing...I would do it in a heartbeat even with it not making much financial sense at the time.

I expect this is the first application and I bet they will release a calandar application when Leopard is released next year. It seems that .Mac will get the old versions of iLife. Acting is hard. You only need to witness bad acting in one movie to understand this. For every A-list star, there are tens of thousands more out of work, because competition is tough and dependent on luck, too. But mostly, it comes down to supply and demand. I have no problems with actors getting 20 million a picture, they worked hard and there are only a handful of them, anyways.

However, Hollywood acts as though the A-List is all there is... which, if doing so, constricts supply to a significantly smaller population, therefore creating an artificially high demand for which they, subsequently, have to pay through the nose for... which WE now have to pay through the nose for. And for what? For a non-sensical, elitist, Movie Star ecosystem (an industry which alone brings in millions, if not billions).
If there are as many struggling good actors as you say there are (and I hope there are), I for one would LOVE to see them. I'm sick of the same 8 actors... Ben Stiller, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson, Vince Vaughn, Steve Carell, Johnny Depp... At least one of these seem to be in 90% of films these days. Some fresh blood would be nice... and easier on the checkbook.

App Store makes it's Extremely easy for devs to release an app make some money then disappear. $2.99 is cheaper than some Twitter apps, and I rather pay that over time knowing the dev will stick around. Loren has stated he would love to have had an upgrade price, but there is no easy way to do it in the app store As Of Now. There's no way to make a cheaper version that only Tweetie 1 users can buy, all app store shoppers would get the same deal.
As far as Push concerned, Tweetie hasn't done it yet because it relies on a developer to create their own server method to check for what you ask of it 24/7, then push that to Apple servers, then to you. Twitter has said they are looking into enabling a push service on their end that all developers would have access to, which would be a better, more reliable method. From what I understood, this feature is not too far off, hence why Tweetie 2 doesn't have the feature.

I had .mac two years ago but didn't renew it. I use Fastmail.fm for email and have a reseller web hosting account with gigabytes of space, and pay less than $99/year for both. Here's the things that would make me consider paying for .mac:

:( I am unable to install wiretap. when I try to unstuff it, it asks to save some preinstall thing in a folder but it says that it already exists. I naturally say save, all three documents. It unpacks, but when i click on it, it tells me that it was unable to locate files. So i am lost at the moment.

Sorry I cant find the answer when I searched. I see you can do the thunderbolt to an HDMI adapter but can it transmit audio?
This new imac will be replacing a mac mini that has hdmi out to my tv "in another room" so it is crucial that its transmits audio over hdmi as well...
