Do Apple stores tend to carry maxed out spec versions of the iMac like I know they sometimes do with other models? Specifically ones with SSDs...

Feel free to take my word on this, and if you feel the need to confirm, remember that it's probably rude in most places to lick someone else's iPod without asking nicely first.
It's also likely to lead to a Douglas Adams-esque end-of-the-world pandemic scenario! Euuuh!

I was disappointed that the resolution was not updated to 1920x1200...I would assume this would have added siginificant costs? or maybe they think the current resolution is good enough and that there is little noticable difference between the current vs 1920x1200 ? Anyone else feel this is a big deal? Reasons why the higher resolution is not necessary? Thanks

Heinous. Absolutely hideous.
And I'm a fan of eye candy.
The faux leather is almost as bad as this "Marble" OS X mockup, from back in the day:

I'm calling B.S. on this photo. That image isn't from Apple. Prove me wrong, please.

Bin Laden was the figurehead of the organization. Him dead is still a blow to Al-Qaeda. Was he in charge anymore probably not but it is still a big deal that he is dead.
Bin Laden was more than the figurehead of Al Qaeda, he was the money guyworking on fund-raising and logistical support. Bin Laden was never a fighter, in fact some of the Taliban thought very little of him until he proved to be a valuable source of funding and weaponry. However, the events of 9/11 made him a folk hero and a figurehead of Al Qaeda.
People's perception of reality matters more in these situations than actual reality. The fact that the average guy in the street probably still thinks/thought of him as the head of al-Qaeda is the important part.
I agree. I also think that his presence in Islamabad, rather than in a small village in the border region, indicates that Bin Laden might have been more in charge of operations in the last few years than we thought. While Al Qaeda has become diffuseAl Qaeda in Iraq shares its name and ideology, but is for all intents and purposes a separate organizationthe death of Bin Laden might complicate recruiting. Al Qaeda no longer has its invincible hero.
On the other hand, it has gained a martyr. Additionally, this may make Pakistan much more dangerous for US interests. Al Qaeda and its supporters will undoubtedly make the Pakistani government pay for this.
Lastly, wonder if this was connected to what Raymond Davis was up to? He was in Lahore, but was the CIA in the midst of working on a serious lead when Davis was nearly intercepted by ISI agents?
I expect to see more fractionalization among the ISI and Pakistan's government.

The rest of the design is not so bad but I wish Apple would get over the urge to make things look like their physical incarnations. I know there is a name for this but it escapes me at the moment.
Skeuomorphic?
It is a bit like that, though maybe not fully, it's more visual as opposed to functional (for example in address book you don't have to 'turn' a page on the screen).
Anyway it is a bit odd, and bound to be super polarising. Personally I think I'd live with it for a while as it does help it stand out from the other dozen+ windows I tend to have open.

Ah, a last minute vote by Aggie. It looks like he might not have purposely bolded his original vote. Add his name to the list for tomorrow.

Ah, so ultimately there will still be 7+ cables, just not connected to the computer itself.
If it's connections to your laptop, that's a win right there. Once you've set up the other connected devices, you won't have to mess with them whenever you go somewhere with the laptop.

Thoughts:
Likely: same design as current iPhone with antenna tweaks, A5 dual-core chip, more RAM, 8MP back camera, 1.3MP front camera, 64GB capacity (max), iOS 5, incresased battery life, etc.
Somewhat Likely: "gestures", LiquidMetal, 4G (probably not till 2012, but who knows), improved display, etc.
Not Likely: complete redesign
That's what I'm betting on. I know I'm probably forgetting some things, but oh well.

this iPad-ness of Lion has me a bit worried. I don't want my interface looking like some cheap toy.

When you think about it, it's kind of sad. He's not only ruining himself, he's also affecting the people he works for and with costing them tons of money, which he'll probably spend to get wasted some more, just because he's Charlie Sheen.
Gloria Steinem said it so nicely; if he had an air force, he'd be Gaddafi.

You watch too much Star Trek. It's still a computer, not a digital house servant. Although..... that would be pretty cool. "Computer, go make me a sandwich."
I also find that in the near future.
Definitely coming soon.

The major difference between TB and FW adoption is that FW was 100% Apple whereas TB was envisioned by Apple and then handed off to Intel for development and implementation.
Since Intel is a major supplier of MBs to PC box manufacturers it can more easily push TB than Apple could FW. Moreover USB 3 is an Intel creation too so it has even greater power to play puppet master.
A dumb question (probably?):
I am not a video expert; not a music producer; not a sound engineer; no relation with servers, whatsoever.
So from that perspective, what is in store for me with respect to thunderbold?
- A normal consumer
I am not a strict normal consumer but I guess 99% of the world is.

So?? Most people at least make their lists now to prepare others for expenses and give them time to get it so they don't have to rush into a store with thousands of other people just to not get it and have to search high and low. You learn from experience! Plus 2 months and 3 days isn't far away.

There are many reasons why I think MIcrosoft's efforts are not going to top Apple:
First off....Zune? WTF is Zune? What meaning does it have? Just from the name it sounds like they are trying way too hard. At least iPod works in conjunction to Apple's other line of products and it makes sense. Zune isn't even a word. iPod is a much friendly and cooler name than Zune.
Second, the Zune looks like a cheap knockoff of the iPod, and its already been deemed the "iPod Killer". Ok, you aren't going to kill the iPod by imitating it. Knockoffs are never cooler than the original. Plus we are talking about Microsoft here, when is the last time they ever did any innovation in the computing industry?
Third off, since they suck at innovating and all they can do is immitate, they will always be one step behind Apple and Apple is already years ahead of them and have a stronghold on the music download industry.
But, I'll invite Zune into the market. Since Apple doesn't really have any competition this could create enough competition to make the iPod lineup even better than they arlready are.

I get about the same drop rate or worse in the DC Metro area. I also have friends on AT&T that have their text messages go to the wrong person. Thinking seriously of getting a Verizon BB and an iPod Touch to replace my iPhone. :(:(:( Sorry :apple:
That's so weird. I live in DC and for my job I drive all around the greater metro area. And I can't even remember ever dropping a single call.

Apple has done something VERY important with the iPod. They made it cool, especially among teens thru college-aged kids. Whenever I'm in an Apple store, it's very obvious just how strongly Apple is going after this demographic and I think it's paying off. Once Zune comes out, would you want to be the one kid in school who has a dorky Microsoft MP3 player? Sure, it will probably have more features. Just like those calculator wristwatch things. They are loaded with features too. That doesn't mean that 99% of kids would be caught dead wearing one.
Too many features can be a bad thing. I remember guy back in college... He always had the latest and greatest gadgets. Cell phone and beeper on his belt, you know they type. ***** tool.
As long as the iPod keeps it's position as the "cool" MP3 player, they will be just fine.

That is why iPhone (4) sales will remain close to zero until the iPhone 5 introduction. A white iPhone 4 will not change that very much.
Hehe. That would be true if the general public read technology news... Most people have no idea about the iPhone 5. And there will be queues for the white iPhone 4 when it does come out because people love that kinda stuff!
