well there you have it apple: in this day and age sueing somebody over patents who has more than you might not always be the smartest idea
fact is: between those big cooperations it has become usual practice to let a certain amount of patent abuse slide since it profits all sides if technology can be used by more, and it also helps adoptions rates (famous example: IBM and their countless PC hardware related patents)

A fall release doesn't really matter to me. Getting a Verizon iPhone 4 next week with a different upgradable line. Then my own upgrade in November. Although hopefully the late release later in the year means Apple is working to put LTE in the iPhone 5 :D

It's also likely to lead to a Douglas Adams-esque end-of-the-world pandemic scenario! Euuuh!
As DNA prophesied:
"A loud clatter of gunk music flooded through the Heart of Gold cabin as
Zaphod searched the sub-etha radio wavebands for news of himself. The machine was rather difficult to operate. For years radios had been operated by means of pressing buttons and turning dials; then as the technology became more sophisticated the controls were made touch-sensitive you merely had to brush the panels with your fingers; now all you had to do was wave your hand in the general direction of the components and hope. It saved a lot of muscular expenditure of course, but meant that you had to sit infuriatingly still if you wanted to keep listening to the same programme.
[...]
The music swirled and dived for a moment. Another voice broke in, presumably Halfrunt. He said: Vel l, Zaphods jist zis guy you know? but got no further because an electric pencil flew across the cabin and through the radios on/off sensitive airspace. Zaphod turned and glared at Trillian she had thrown the pencil."

It will suck like all Microsoft products except for the MS Mouse that is good.
MS Natural Keyboard is also good.
How come pretty much everthing Apple makes is good except for the Mouse
Apple mouse is beautiful and using one is not very stressful for your hand. Scroll ball in the Mighty Mouse is the best I've used and there's no comparison.
The only bad Apple mice were the hockey pucks.

surely if you look at it that way the ipod is in the position the 360 is in and the zune is like the wii.
I think you missed the point. I wasn't comparing the iPod to the 360 and the Zune to the Wii.
I was comparing the Zune project to the Xbox project, and the iPod to the Xbox's competitors.

As for the remark about big cities, everyone up here around NYC knows that Verizon takes pride in making sure there are no dead spots in their home area. Report one, and they'll fix it. They have literally thousands of mini cells on buildings downtown.
KDarling, I was wondering what these mini cells look like on buildings...

To US its a big deal. It's a blow to the Al-Qaeda that doesn't exist anymore. The current one will still function just as it has for nearly a decade in its cell based way. If anything this will just piss off extremists. Don't think for a second some type of retaliation (most likely attacks in the Middle East) won't come about from this.We took down who they thought was invincible. That will hurt their ego and their pride. Will they try to retaliate, sure.
Who knows what information we may have found in that mansion that could hurt them.

Drive arrays can easily exceed 10 Gbps - today a 2 drive RAID 0 array can hit 10 Gbps.
Single drives faster than TBolt already exist - 12 Mbps SSD drive (http://www.fusionio.com/products/iodriveduo/).
TBolt devices haven't even hit the market, but TBolt is already too slow for many uses.
12Mbps? you sure you didn't mean 1.5GBs?

Don't mean to be a wet blanket, but I didn't care about Apple's market share when it was slipping in the 90s and I don't care about it now that it's climbing. I didn't buy my Mac to be popular and I don't particularly care that lots of people are (or are not) using them. It's just an irrelevant metric to me.
...
Besides, Apple deals in the kind of quality that will keep it around for many, many years, regardless of which way its market share is going and that's all that I care about.
You do realize that if Apple's marketshare were to drop to, say, 1% or lower, they would have very little money to spend on R&D, and the quality and innovation you seek would suffer tremendously? Which is why Apple was doing dismally in the 90's and is doing much better today. They are now flush with cash, and can pump out great hardware products, and develop and refine the software that drives sales. Market share (and high margins) is important to ensure a steady flow of cash for those projects.
So, you don't care about how market share affects you, but if you were the only Mac user, I assure you, Apple wouldn't be manufacturing products just for your puny market share. (To make an extreme example)

if this turned out to be the next iPhone I might buy one before upgrade time is up. The square look of my iP4 is nice but I would love for it to appear to have less bulk. Yes I know its small already but that's what people were saying when we moved from the bag phone to the bar phone.

You just leave the computers on 24/7 just folding. Not everyone does though. Also trying to fold more might influence your farm or purchases. Also trying beta programs is a way to compete. Also being on a team gives you more satisfaction than just your personal crunching.

Also, Apple is Evil and you are living in Steve Job's RTF.
and... and... 4G.
and... widgets.
Okay, now you're just antagonizing people...lol
Widgets? Blah...waste of time/space IMO. 4G? No carrier yet has true 4G. Sprint I guess? They're the closest. Most the others are all 3.5G

Under System Requirements it doesn't mention Windows. Does this mean......?
You're right, it doesn't.
Could just mean they haven't put that info in yet, but I'd say it's a fairly good guess that because this is now bluetooth that it won't work with XP. I think this is a bad move if true, what about all those XP users on their Macs thanks to Boot Camp? (Not sure if it would work through Parrallels).
If I didn't already buy this normal Apple Wireless Mouse I'd order one now....grrr.

Copying someone else stuff isn't competing. It's a strategy, but as business strategy targeting the iPod market, it's practically a non-starter as many potential "competitors" (including Microsoft) have already found out. DRM seems to be more of an issue with some tech journals than with the general public. Tens of millions of iPods have been sold, and the iTunes music store is well on it's way to posting another billion songs sold milestone. The anti-DRM arguments don't seem to be resonating in those numbers.
At this point, I don't see anyone else mounting a formidable run at the iPod market, unless they can come with something truly unique, something smart, something that just reeks of must-have desirability and not just like the iPod has now, but even more so. That's what's at stake. So does Microsoft have the answer? Not apparently. Since Ballmer already envisions five years or so of less than stellar expectations before it's even out in front of the public, what does that tell you about Microsoft's "Zune?"
Already handicapping your yet-to-be released product just isn't a good sign.

Thunderbolt would be a killer feature for this machine - and would open up a whole load of expansion options.
Sonnet are marketing a load of interesting accessories, from Gigabit ethernet and FW800 adapters, to RAID arrays, to full-size PCIe expansion card housings, all of which can connect via Thunderbolt.
Those CPUs are pretty fast. For everyone except gamers it should be a nice machine.
To be honest, if you carry a TB to FW, RAID, PCIe expansions, whats the point of carrying an Air?
Also, will they have to sacrifice a 2.0 USB port in order to intergrate a TB port?
Idk why people say that the update affects only gamers. It affects almost everyone. OpenGLs, 3D, movies, etc.
Although I do believe the CPU will have an amazing boost, I think the GPU sacrifice will be a very huge one. But only time will tell.
